Mustangs To Swim In Mean Green Duals

DALLAS (SMU)-SMU women's swimming and diving (1-0-1) will compete in the Mean Green Duals this Saturday held in the Pohl Recreation Center. Five teams will compete in the meet including Arkansas, Colorado State, New Mexico State, and SMU.
The Mustangs return to the water after tying with Penn State in their last head to head competition and placing second in the SMU Classic. SMU is currently ranked 14th in the NCAA, falling two spots despite no losses.
Meddling in Mustang Affairs
In diving, sophomore Audra Egenolf continues to post NCAA qualifying scores, having done so in her last two meets. Egenolf's highest marks of the year are a 297.74 in the one-meter and a 340.15 in the three-meter springboard events. Egenolf leads conference in the three-meter, but is ranked second by 10 points behind Houston's Anastasia Pozdniakova.
SMU's relay teams have been stellar, leading C-USA in every relay event thus far. As well, the Mustangs lead conference in every individual event with the exception of the 200 breast and the one-meter diving events, which belong to Houston.
Comments on Colorado State
The Colorado State Rams are currently undefeated in head to head competition recording a 4-0 start, which is good enough to hold down the top spot in the Mountain West Conference. One Ram in particular, MWC Swimmer of the Week Breann Fuller, will be up to the challenge of matching SMU's top swimmers in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Fuller's best time (56.81) in the 100 back this season is a tenth faster than senior Mustang Petra Klosova's time (56.91).
Razorback Round-Up
Arkansas entered the 2008-09 season ranked 21st, but has fallen one spot to No.22. The Razorbacks will come to Denton having narrowly defeated SEC foe LSU in head to head competition. Arkansas posted some impressive times in the win, with junior Leah Pierce winning the 200 breast by touching in at 2:16.71 and breaking the school record. Razorback Katie Kastes will provide some competition for sophomore Mustang Elzanne Werth in the 100 fly as she posted a 56.09 against LSU, only eight tenths of a second slower than Werth's 55.29.
Getting an Angle on the Aggies
New Mexico State faced C-USA conference foes Rice and Houston this past Thursday, scoring a win against Rice and falling to Houston. Aggie Kelly Conrad had a strong top finish in the 50 free posting a time of 23.84, which should give senior Mustang Candace Blackman some competition. Blackman's fastest time this season is a 23.31. Aggie Maria Spies and junior Mustang Devon Callaghan are neck and neck in the 100 breast, with both swimmers recording best times this season of 1:03.74.
Notes on North Texas
The Mean Green recently accrued their first dual meet win of the season against Sun Belt conference foe New Orleans on Oct. 24 bringing their 2008-09 record to 1-3 for the season. In the win, freshmen Brandi Townsend and Rosa Gentile combined to win seven of the eight events North Texas swept including the 100 and 200 breast events, as well as the 100 back and 100 fly.
