DALLAS (SMU)-SMU Volleyball (13-15, 5-9 C-USA) lost in three sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-13) Friday night to the Tulane Green Wave (21-5, 12-1 C-USA) in Fogelman Arena. In the loss, sophomore Kathryn Wilkerson led the offense with eight kills and a .240 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Sidney Stewart recorded a team-high 10 digs on defense, and freshman Kelli Becerra registered 13 assists.
Senior Natalie Peters and freshman Dana Powell contributed to the Mustangs offense with six kills each, while the SMU first line of defense added three blocks in the attempt to contain the Green Wave attack. The Mustangs recorded 36 digs overall on defense to average 13 digs per set.
Tulane was an unstoppable force on offense, recording a team hitting efficiency of .449. Tulane hitters Sara Radosevic and Visjna Djurdjevic had highlight nights as they recorded double-digit kills with 11 and 10 apiece without falling below a .400 hitting efficiency. Tulane is currently receiving votes for the NCAA top 25, and is ranked in the top 30.
The Mustangs will face UTEP (6-20, 2-10 C-USA) on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Memorial Gym. SMU beat the Miners last time out in a grueling five-setter at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs will attempt to replicate their success on the road.
