Mustangs Making A Splash At European Short Course Championships

RIJEKA, Croatia (SMU)-SMU women's swimming and diving had three former and current Mustangs compete in the European Short Course Championships held in Rijeka, Croatia on Saturday, December 13. Fifth year senior Anja Carman, 2006 graduate Sara Nordenstam, and freshman Denisa Smolenova made the trip, with Carman and Nordenstam placing into the finals in their respective events.
Carman produced an outstanding meet, placing into the finals in both the 100 and 200 back events. In the 100 back, Carman finished eighth with a time of 58.16. Carman then conjured up a fourth place finish in the 200 back touching in at 2:05.04.
Nordenstam also qualified for the finals in the 200 breast, where she clocked a 2:26.04 which placed her eighth. In the 100 breast semifinals, Nordenstam finished 15th with a time of 1:08.16. She also competed in the 200 and 400 IM events.
Current Mustang Smolenova swam in the fly events, recording personal bests in the 50 and 100 with times of 27.63 and 50.84 respectively. Smolenova also swam in the 200 fly touching in at 2:13.37.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday, January 6 when they take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Joe Perkins Natatorium at 12:00 p.m.
