DALLAS (SMU) - Junior Brittany Gilliam scored a career-high 26 points, pulled down six rebounds, grabbed a pair of steals and handed out three assists to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a 73-65 victory over visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.
Gilliam led three Mustangs in double figures; junior Delisha Wills, who scored a career-high 26 points last year against the Islanders, contributed 11 points and sophomore LaShandra Hill added 10.
The teams were tied, 24-24, with 4:30 left in the first half before the Mustangs went on a 13-0 tear to head to the halftime intermission with a 37-24 lead.
The Mustangs also dominated the low post, outscoring TAMU-CC, 32-14, in the paint, but and also had some success from the outside: sophomore Haley Day drained a career-high three three-pointers, and junior Jillian Samuels added two; Samuels has at least two buckets from long range in five of the Mustangs' first six games.
SMU now heads out on the road to play at Texas A&M at 1 p.m. Sunday in College Station. All SMU games can be heard on KAAM (AM 770).
