DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman center Christine Elliott turned in the best game of her young career Sunday, registering new career highs in points (23) and field goals (nine) and pulling down 10 boards to pick up her second double-double as the SMU women's basketball team cruised to a 92-75 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The victory evened the Mustangs' record at 6-6, while UA-PB dropped its ninth straight game to fall to 1-9 on the season.
Elliott had tied or set a new career high in scoring in each of the previous four games, but she cracked the 20-point plateau for the first time in her career and picked up her second double-double by connecting on 69 percent of her shots (9-of-13) and tying her career high with five free throws (on six attempts).
Elliott was one of four Mustangs who scored in double figures. Junior Brittany Gilliam scored 20 points (and a team-leading five assists), while junior Jillian Samuels and sophomore Haley Day added 12 and 10, respectively.
Six of Samuels' points came on a pair of three-pointers, which raised her career total to 149 baskets from behind the arc. Her first three-pointer pushed her past former teammate Katie Gross into sole possession of second place on the all-time list at SMU.
The Mustangs, who have won four of their last five games, now head to Fort Worth to face TCU at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Daniel Meyer Coliseum in a game that can be heard live on KAAM (770 AM).
