COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) - Junior Brittany Gilliam continued her streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season with a team-leading 18 points, but it wasn't enough as the SMU women's basketball team fell, 80-48, against No. 4 Texas A&M at Reed Arena in College Station.
The Mustangs outrebounded the Aggies, 42-40, and were led on the glass by freshman post Christine Elliott, who pulled down a game-high nine rebounds; it was the fourth time this season she had nine boards in a game. Gilliam added eight.
The Mustangs stayed close in the second half, being outscored by just seven points (37-30), but they also had 26 turnovers, the Aggies were equally hot from the floor in each half, shooting 47 percent from the floor before and after the intermission. Takia Starks scored 21 points to lead three A&M players in double figures.
The Mustangs return home when they host the University of North Texas at 2 p.m. next Sunday at Moody Coliseum.
