DALLAS (AP) - Mark Dorris hit a 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds left Wednesday night to give Marshall a 75-74 victory over SMU. Dorris finished with 18 points, including scoring Marshall's final eight. His game-winner came off a double screen near the top of the arc, twisting to his right to get off the shot from about 25 feet.

Derrick Roberts led SMU (8-14, 2-7 Conference USA) with 18 points, hitting 8-of-9 field goals and getting three steals. He hit a layup with 13 seconds left to put SMU back up by two, but Marshall got the ball to Dorris for the winning basket after a timeout. Robert has also given SMU a 72-70 lead at 2:14 before Dorris tied the game on a breakaway with 1:01 left.

Dorris earlier tied the game twice in the final 2:34, once with his first of two 3-pointers and again with a layup to knot the game at 72. Tirrell Baines led Marshall (13-10, 5-5 Conference USA) with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Markel Humphrey added 12 points for Marshall and Darryl Merthie had 10. Bamba Fall and Jon Killen each had 16 for the Mustangs. Fall went 5-of-8 from the field and grabbed three rebounds. Killen also had a game-high seven assists.

Marshall hit 54.3 percent from the field to slightly outpace SMU at 53.2 percent. SMU shot 14-of-17 at the free throw line, but was just 2-of-3 in the second half. Marshall went 18-of-23 at the line.

SMU led throughout much of the game.

The Mustangs are back in action Saturday at Houston, then at Southern Miss next Wednesday before returning home to host UAB on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.

SMU vs. Marshall February 13, 2008 Postgame Quotes

Matt Doherty, SMU HEAD COACH "I thought it was a great college basketball game. It's tough to lose another game like this, like the Tulsa game. You have to give Marshall credit, and I thought you have to give our guys credit. It was the team that had the ball last that was the team that was going to win. I think the difference in the game was obviously the rebounding. They are a very physical team, especially Baines, he's a pretty darn good player. 24 points and 11 rebounds, five offensive rebounds. They had 16 second chance points and 31 rebounds to our 17 boards, I think that's the difference."

On the last sequence for the winning shot: "I haven't looked at the film. I don't know if that was the set play. I don't know if they were looking for a three. I think we may have taken away the initial play and it was either a secondary look or they were just freelancing at that point. But I don't know what we could have done different defensively."

Derrick Roberts, SMU SENIOR GUARD On the last possession: "I don't know. Dorris came off a double screen like six feet behind the line and nailed it and that was a just a big time play."

DONNIE JONES, MARSHALL HEAD COACH "What a great college basketball game. There had to be one winner, but SMU played a terrific game. Tonight our team just found a way to make some plays down the stretch."

On the last sequence for the winning shot: "If it were a two point basket we would have taken it, but if not we were going to go to Mark for three. And we were fortunate to be able to get the open look at the three and he had a tough shot, it was well defended and he hopped up and hit a fade away three and it was well defended."
