COLUMBIA, Mo. (SMU)--The No. 14 SMU women's swimming team placed two more in the top 20 in the second round of finals at the Missouri Grand Prix Sunday. The Mustangs also qualified four swimmers for the event finals to be held Monday morning.
In the 200 LC meter free finals, Sascha Van den Branden finished in 2:07.82, a little over four seconds slower than her prelim time Saturday. Van den Branden placed 23rd overall. The 50 free saw four current Mustangs swim the final. Petra Klosova was the top finisher for SMU, completing the course in 26.19, shaving almost three-tenths of a second off her prelim time and placing 12th. Angela San Juan Cisneros was the next SMU finisher, clocking a time of 26.58, just under three-tenths of a second faster than her prelim time. San Juan Cisneros placed 20th overall. Van den Branden took 24th in the finals, touching in at 26.91. Assistant women's swimming coach Dominique Diezi also competed in the finals, notching a time of 26.72, good for 23rd place.
Three Mustangs swam in the 100 LC meter butterfly prelims. Elzanne Werth was the top SMU finisher in the event, recording a very impressive 1:01.21, putting her in eighth place overall, qualifying her for the A final to be held Monday morning. San Juan Cisneros finished 10th, touching the wall in 1:01.49, putting her in the B final. Justine Clark continued her exceptional run, clocking a time of 1:03.34, good for 21st and a place in the C final.
Klosova was the lone Mustang to swim in the 100 back, finishing in 1:03.60. Her time put her in 10th place and earned her a spot in the B final to be held Monday.
Former Mustang Michelle Vlasakova competed in the 200 IM, qualifying for the C final in 21st place with a time of 2:23.40.
