PARRISH, Fla. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team finished in an 11th-place tie in its spring opener on Tuesday, carding a three-round total of 935 at the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Golf Club. The Mustangs finished tied with Oklahoma and two spots ahead of Baylor. SMU finished the event without standout Kate Ackerson, who had to withdraw after round one due to injury.

"I really felt bad for Kate," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "She did not want to come off the course, but she just couldn't continue. This is the first event she's had to withdraw from since her first event as a freshman."

Freshman Tia Gannon led SMU, finishing tied for 23rd at 77-75-78-230. Sarah Dodson was steady, carding a 79-76-79-234 to tie for 34th. All-Conference performers Lacey Jones (77-81-78-236) and Laura Cross (84-80-78-242) had uncharacteristically tough outings, tying for 41st and 58th, respectively.

"We'll just chalk this tournament up to experience and go out and get ready for the `Mo'Morial in March," said Selders.
