Dodds Breaks SMU Scoring, Rebounding Records

March 1, 2008

NEW ORLEANS, LA. (SMU) - Senior post Janielle Dodds cemented her place in SMU history Saturday, breaking the two highest-profile individual records in school history in a 71-68 loss at Tulane.

Dodds led the Mustangs with 17 points and nine rebounds, breaking Karlin Kennedy's school record in each category. She also extended her SMU-record total of free throws made to 462.

The game ended the regular season for the Mustangs, whose 21 victories were the most in school history. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 21-8 on the season, including 11-5 in Conference USA games. The Green Wave improved to 16-13, 6-10.

The teams battled back and forth all game long, with Tulane riding the hot shooting of Nikki Luckhurst, who had six three-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points, and Alendra Brown, who added a career-high 22.

The Ponies now head to Orlando for the Conference USA Tournament, where they might get another chance at the Green Wave. By virtue of finishing the regular season in second place in the conference, the Mustangs earned a first-round bye and will await the winner of Memphis and Tulane.
