Volleyball Announces Signing of Sidney Stewart for 2008-09

April 23, 2008

DALLAS (SMU)--The SMU volleyball team has received a signed National Letter of Intent from Sidney Stewart, an outside hitter from Memorial High School in Houston, announced head coach Lisa Seifert Wednesday.

Stewart has notched an impressive high school resume, setting school records in career kills (1058) and career digs (1057). Last fall, Stewart was named 5A All-State, 19-5A MVP, team MVP and made the all-tournament team at the Junior Olympics. She also set a new school record in kills in match with 26, eclipsing the old mark of 24, which had been set by her a season earlier.

In her senior season, Stewart averaged 4.4 kills per game (501 total kills) and 3.8 digs per game on 427 total digs. She also managed 70 aces, earning her a spot among the top 250 Prep Volleyball Seniors.

"We are more than excited to have Sidney joining our volleyball team," said head coach Lisa Seifert. "She is a complete volleyball player who handles the ball very well. Sidney possesses the intangibles that every coach is looking for: volleyball intelligence and an amazing competitive spirit."

The Mustangs kick off their fall schedule by heading south to Waco to take on Baylor on August 29. For the complete schedule and results, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
