Sept. 12, 2008

Dallas (SMU)-SMU Volleyball (5-3) beat Georgia Tech (5-2) in five sets (25-21, 27-25, 15-25, 20-25, 15-12) Friday, September 12, 2008 in the Magnolia Invitational at the Gillom Sports Complex in Oxford, Mississippi.

Senior Natalie Peters stood out in match play recording 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. She also contributed an ace. Junior Kendra Kahanek put up impressive numbers on offense registering 11 kills out of 17 attempts to finish with an exceptional .647 hitting percentage.

"Natalie and Kendra played outstanding and were a major factor in our win. They just couldn't be stopped," says Head Coach Lisa Seifert.

Coming back from a devastating five-set loss last weekend to Stephen F. Austin, the Mustangs regrouped and used the lessons learned against the Yellow Jackets.

"Our loss to SFA was a blessing in disguise. The girls were able to draw on that pain (of losing) and stay composed and focused. They played with confidence and stayed aggressive, making kill shots in crucial situations, "says Seifert.

Mustang volleyball is back in action this afternoon at 4 p.m. against Eastern Illinois (3-4) at the Gillom Sports Complex in the Magnolia Invitational.
