Dallas (SMU)-SMU Volleyball (7-6) fell in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) to UNLV (6-6) Saturday, September 20 in the Denver Invitational at Hamilton Gymnasium. Senior Natalie Peters led the Mustang offense with 12 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. On defense, Junior Kendra Kahanek recorded 3.5 blocks, while Freshman Dana Powell had 12 digs for the match.
Sophomore Kathryn Wilkerson served tough in the third set registering two aces. The Mustangs put up 18 digs on defense, but it wasn't enough to stop the Rebel attack.
The Mustangs grabbed the lead late in the second set 21-20 off a three-block series by the Mustangs. Despite this effort and an exceptional team hitting percentage of .350 with only three errors, the Mustangs barely dropped the second set.
In the first set, Peters helped pull the Mustangs to an early six point lead off two aces in a row. The Rebels rallied late in the set and surged to the win.
The Mustangs continue match play tonight against Denver (8-2) at 7:30 p.m. in the Denver Invitational at Hamilton Gymnasium.
