SAN ANTONIO (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team finished third at the inaugural Lone Star Invitational Monday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club with a three-round total of 868. Leading the way for SMU was Kelly Kraft, who tied for fourth at 67-69-74=210. Mustang Ben Tewes also finished in the top 10, taking seventh at 74-69-68=211.
No. 18 Texas A&M won the event at 848 and No. 4 Texas was second at 858. A&M junior John Hurley captured the individual win with a 10-under total of 71-64-71=206. Almost all schools in Texas were represented in the tournament. TCU and Texas Tech were the only NCAA Division I teams in Texas absent from the 12-team field.
