DALLAS (SMU) - SMU scored twice, but could not get past Memphis in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament, falling 6-2 to the Tigers. Kim Peabody and Kristin Medeiros scored for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs (7-11-1) fell behind 3-0 as Memphis (13-5-2) received goals from Julia Ignacio, Lizzy Simonin and Taylor Isenhower in the first 20 minutes of play.
Senior Kim Peabody scored, in what was her last game for the Mustangs, in the 37th minute off a pass from Kaitlyn Eidson to cut the Tiger lead to two. The assist was Eidson's second on the season. SMU nearly cut the lead to one in the 44th minute when a Kaitlyn Eidson header hit the woodwork.
Memphis pulled further away in the second half when Ashley Berra, Taylor Isenhower scored for the Tigers early in the second half.
Kristin Medeiros scored her second goal in the 70th minute, her second goal of the season. Ryanne Lewis recorded her first career assist on the play.
Amanda Olszewski put in a goal in the 82nd for Memphis to give them the final 6-2 margin.
The C-USA Tournament continues at Westcott Field on Friday, November 6 with UCF facing UAB at 5:00 p.m. and Memphis taking on Colorado College at 7:30 p.m.
