DALLAS (SMU) - Christine Elliott led the Mustangs with 18 points, but was one of just three SMU players in double figures as the women's basketball team fell to TCU 84-66 in Moody Coliseum Wednesday night.

Elliott was 8-of-9 from the field in the game, despite facing double- and triple-teams for most of the contest. The SMU post player also grabbed seven rebounds. Raquel Christian finished with 13 points, going 3-for-5 from 3-point range, and Haley Day added 10 points.

The Mustangs (6-2) quickly found out they were in for a slugfest, with the lead changing five times before the first media timeout. When play was stopped with 15:56 on the clock, SMU led 9-8. The Mustangs stretched the lead to five, 15-10 with 12:44 left in the half, but the Horned Frogs (6-3) took the lead for good, 24-22, with 6:09 left in the first half on a 3-pointer from Rachel Rentschler.

TCU stretched the lead to as many as six before a buzzer-beating 3-point shot from Alisha Filmore cut the lead to just one going into the locker room at halftime. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, it was Filmore's only field goal in four attempts, with the freshman finishing with three points and five rebounds.

After going 6-of-12 for three in the first half, the Mustangs didn't attempt a shot from behind the arc until five and a half minutes into the second half. Christian made SMU's first 3-point shot on the team's third attempt with 12:14 left in the game, but by that time TCU had already established a double-digit lead, 53-43 after Christian's bucket.

The Mustangs never got closer than six points the rest of the way, falling to their crosstown rival for the first time in three seasons.
