SMU Season-Best Track Times Fall In College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) - Nine members of the SMU track and field team established new season-best performances as the Mustangs finished 12th at the Texas A&M Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station.
Ayla Gill was the Mustangs' highest finisher, placing fifth in the weight throw with a heave of 17.18 meters, even though her mark was not a personal best.
The season-best marks were led by senior Rachael Forish, who established a new personal best by clocking a 4:56.03 to finish fifth and sophomore Silje Fjortoft, who finished seventh in the one-mile run. In her first mile race of the season, Fjortoft crossed the finish line in 5:00.75.
In addition, distance specialist Celeste Sullivan established a new personal best of her own in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 18:17 to place sixth.
Three Mustangs lowered two personal times - one individual mark, and one as part of a relay. In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Gayla turned in a career-best time of 8.77 to finish 12th in the event, while Amber Evans and Alexandria Smith ran their best times of the season in the 200-meter dash: Evans finished 24th, in 24.75, while Smith finished 35th, in 25.13.
The trio also teamed with Nnenna Ejesieme to run the group's fastest time of the season in the 4x400-meter relay, in 3:47.71.
Senior Jessa Simmons finished 13th in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in a season-best 10:09.69.
Sophomore Kathleen Hoogland placed 34th in the 800-meter run, in a season-best 2:25.11, while Ejesieme placed 35th in the 400-meter dash, in 58.96.
