HATTIESBURG, Miss. (SMU) - The SMU women's basketball team rallied late in the second half, but it was not enough as the Mustangs fell, 75-65, to Conference USA leader Southern Miss Thursday night in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Mustangs were led by junior guard Brittany Gilliam, who scored a team-high 17 points for the Ponies. She was one of three players to score in double figures for the Mustangs (14-8, 7-2); junior forward Delisha Wills added 13 points, and freshman center Christine Elliott chipped in with 11.

The Golden Eagles improved to 15-7 overall and 8-1 in C-USA games to take over sole possession of first place in the conference.

The game was decided in the transition game, where Southern Miss outscored the Mustangs, 20-11 in points off of turnovers, and at the free throw line, where the Ponies got just 13 shots and hit only six.

The Mustangs now head to Orlando, Fla., to take on UCF at 5 p.m. (central time) in a game that can be heard on KAAM (770 AM) after the conclusion of the broadcast of the SMU men's basketball game. The pregame show is expected to start on schedule, at 4:45 p.m.
