ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - Four Mustangs scored in double figures, but it was not enough as the SMU women's basketball team fell, 78-68, to the UCF Knights in Orlando.
Jillian Samuels and Brittany Gilliam scored 12 points apiece - all of Samuels' points coming on four three-pointers - while Haley Day added 10 points and LaShandra Hill had 10.
But UCF's Chelsie Wiley had 26 points and Emma Cannon had 14 points and 20 rebounds as the Knights held on late. SMU slipped to 14-9 overall and 7-3 in Conference USA games, while UCF improved to 10-13, 8-2.
For Samuels, the game was the second time this season she had more than three three-pointers in a game; she tied her career high with five hoops from long range Dec. 16 in SMU's win over Dartmouth. She has had at least three three-pointers in seven games so far this season.
The Mustangs head back on the road this week to face the Memphis Tigers at 7 p.m. Thursday in game that can be heard live on KAAM (770 AM). For a complete schedule and ticket information, log on to SMUMustangs.com or call 214-SMU-GAME.
