MALIBU, Calif. (SMU)-SMU women's tennis (17-2) earned their sixth straight win (5-2) after traveling to No. 48 Pepperdine (5-6) to quell the Waves at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Wednesday, March 11 with No. 79 doubles tandem junior Nicole Briceno and senior Kseniia Tokarieva collecting their ninth consecutive win in tiebreaker fashion (9-8) to improve to 13-1 on the season.
In other doubles action, freshman pair Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova dropped Anne Christene Voicu and Alexandria Walters in an easy decision (8-4) at the number one spot to clinch the doubles point.
No. 66 Lesniak continued her winning ways in singles play at the top spot, downing Anamika Bhargava in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Senior Natalia Bubien was on her way to producing an earned win with an easy first set win over Jill Braverman, when Braverman retired due to injury, allowing Bubien to collect the win by default (6-3, 1-2).
Malyarchikova remains undefeated in her late start to the season, improving to 5-0 with a win (6-3, 6-4) over Walters. For the final win of the night, Tokarieva battled through a first set tiebreaker against Tania Rice to go on for the victory in the second set (7-5, 6-4).
The Mustangs will return to action on Wednesday when they take on cross-town rival TCU at 6:00 p.m. at Turpin Tennis Stadium.
