DALLAS (SMU)-SMU rowing flew past the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday, March 14 at White Rock Lake, collecting wins in all five races to begin the spring season.
In the varsity eight, a Mustang crew of Janice Merideth, Caroline Merideth, Catherine Campbell, Alex Austin, Hannah Hansing, Liz Langdon, Chantal Bohren, Lauren Doucet, and (coxswain) Ali Smith earned an easy win by clocking in at a competitive 6:59.56, a little better than 22 seconds ahead of Creighton's crew and a season-fastest. SMU's second varsity eight boat also swept the Bluejay competition, racing to a time of 7:38.32.
Caroline Merideth, Hannah Hansing, Chantal Bohren, Catherine Campbell, and (coxswain) Emily Van Volkinburg pushed the Mustangs to a victory in the varsity four, crossing the finish line at 7:56.26 while Creighton dropped behind to a finishing time of 8:17.40. SMU collected a win in the second varsity four, as well.
In novice four competition, a team of Haley King, Annie Tremaine, Laura Benavides, Saskia Routs, and (coxswain) Emma Richardson placed ahead of Creighton by 20 seconds, turning in the win with a time of 8:48.36.
SMU rowing returns to the water on Saturday, March 28 in Oklahoma City, Okla. when they take on Oklahoma and Kansas.
