Basel Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award

DALLAS (SMU)-Senior Jennifer Basel of the SMU women's swimming program was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for academic and athletic excellence as she prepares to attend the University of Virginia Medical School.
Basel is one of among 58 NCAA student-athletes awarded one-time, nonrenewable educational grants of $7,500. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The Association awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.
While at SMU, Basel accrued All-America honors as she helped guide the Mustangs to four consecutive Conference USA titles. In the classroom, Basel is a two-time C-USA All-Academic team member and three-time Commissioner's Medal winner and Commissioner's Honor Roll selection with a 3.93 GPA in chemistry.
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.
