OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (SMU) - SMU rowing concluded the 2009 racing season at the South Regional with a ninth-place overall finish on Saturday, May 16. SMU improved a spot from its 2008 regional finish and posted season-best times in the varsity and second varsity eight.
In the varsity eight C final, an SMU crew of coxswain Ali Smith and strokers Janice Merideth, Lauren Doucet, Catherine Campbell, Alex Austin, Hannah Hansing, Caroline Merideth, Chantal Bohren, and Liz Langdon raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 6:35.53, a season-best by 14 seconds.
Also recording a season-best time in the D final of the second varsity were Mustangs Haley King, Caitlin Ludwig, Nicolle Keogh, Lauren Hadaway, Rebecca Routs, Saskia Routs, Sofya Davydova, Torre Kean and coxswain Emily St. John. The 2V8 boat bettered its mark by 30 seconds, clocking 6:48.40 to place first.
"I just want to congratulate our seniors - Alex Austin, Elizabeth Hagerty, Caitlin Ludwig, and Danielle Nehf," said Head Coach Doug Wright. "Each class leaves a legacy, and this one class leaves with a school record in their final race. My assistants and I thank them for all their hard work and dedication."
