DALLAS (AP) - Papa Dia scored 16 points and Derek Williams added 12 to lead SMU to a 78-50 victory against North Carolina Central on Saturday.

Paul McCoy had 10 points and six steals for the Mustangs (6-8), who shot a season-high 65 percent (32 of 49) from the floor.

Nick Chasten led North Carolina Central (2-14) with 16 points and seven rebounds. C.J. Wilkerson added 13 points.

SMU led 36-19 at halftime and squelched any hope of a North Carolina Central comeback by opening the second half with a 15-2 run. During the stretch, McCoy had three steals that led to layups, and Papa had seven points.

TEAM

-SMU shot a season-best 65.2 percent in the first half (15-23), and 65.3% for the game (32-49). It marked the first time the team shot 65% or better since Dec. 19, 2005, shooting 69.4% (34-49) against Savannah State.

-The Mustangs had their best defensive half of the year in the first 20 minutes, holding UNC Central to 7-29 shooting (24.1%).

-SMU is 6-2 when leading at the half this year.

-From 01:12 remaining in the first half to 15:45 in the second, SMU went on a 22-2 run.

-After holding UTEP to just 49 points on Wednesday, Saturday marked the first time SMU has held consecutive opponents to 50 or fewer points since Feb. 8 and 11, 1992, when the Mustangs did the trick to Texas Tech (47 points) and Texas A&M (38 points).

-SMU made 8 three pointers in the game. The Mustangs are 5-0 when making 6+ three-pointers this season.

-SMU dominated down low, outscoring the Eagles 40-19 in the paint.

-The Mustang bench did its part, outscoring UNC Central's 38-9.

INDIVIDUAL

Paul McCoy
-Had a career-high six steals. Was the first time a Mustang had that many in a game since Bryan Hopkins on Feb. 15, 2006. The total is tied for ninth in school history.

Ryan Barbre
-Made his first three career three-point field goals. Played in a career-high 8 minutes.

Derek Williams
-Scored 12 points, giving him seven straight games in double digits.

Papa Dia
-Had 16 points, making it the sixth time in his last seven contests with 10 or more points.
