Box Score vs. Memphis
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team fell to Memphis 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field. With the loss, the Mustangs move to 10-5-2 on the year and 5-3-0 in Conference USA action.
"We just didn't have the goods today," said head coach Brent Erwin. "We're a good team. We were on a good streak, and today we just didn't play very well. We'll come out next week and we'll get back on a streak again. Sometimes good teams have bad days, and I think we had that today."
Memphis opened the scoring with a goal just 4:53 in to the game. After SMU defender Katherine Cox made a stop on the initial header, Memphis forward Ashley Berra headed the ball in for a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers added another goal just over two minutes in to the second half when Lizzy Simonin shot the ball from the top of the box following a corner kick.
In the 83rd minute, Memphis midfielder Vendula Strnadova fired a shot from the top of the box into the far upper 90 to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Memphis is now 11-3-2 on the season and 5-1-2 in conference play.
The Mustangs head east to take on C-USA foes Southern Miss and UCF. The Golden Eagles are 3-11-2 on the year and 0-7-1 in C-USA action. The Knights hold a 10-3-3 record overall and are 5-1-2 in conference play.
