DALLAS (SMU) --- Behind an outstanding performance from Jessica Oliver, the SMU volleyball team defeated the UCF Knights in five sets (25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10) on Friday night at Moody Coliseum.
Oliver, SMU's right-side hitter, finished with a team season-high 24 kills. The junior only totaled 43 attacks and finished with a personal-season best .488 attack percentage. Oliver's performance marks the highest hitting clip this season with over 25 swings for the Mustangs.
Dana Powell, Courtney Manning and Kathryn Wilkerson each notched double-digit kills for the Mustangs. Powell registered 12 kills and added 15 digs to notch her 16th double-double this season. Manning totaled 10 kills and five blocks. Wilkerson, SMU's all-time digs leader, charted 10 kills and 15 digs for her 15th double-double this season.
SMU setter Kelli Becerra collected a match-high 51 assists and Sidney Stewart, who was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, gathered a contest-high 25 digs.
In the back-and-forth match, both teams finished attacking at a .149 clip. Down 2-1, the Mustangs responded with two consecutive wins to maintain their second place standing in C-USA. In the deciding set, SMU converted on 80 percent of sideouts to clinch the victory.
The Mustangs return to the court at 1 p.m. Sunday to face UTEP.
