W-Swim: Mustangs Compete In World Championships

DUBAI (SMU) - SMU swimmer Nina Rangelova set a new Bulgarian national record in the Dubai World Swimming Championships over the weekend. The freshman placed tenth in the 400 freestyle, clocking in at 4:06.00 for the new Bulgarian record. She also finished 22nd in the 200 freestyle (1:57.48) and 26th in the 100 freestyle (54.95).
"It is exciting to see Nina swimming so well at the World Championships and setting a national record," head coach Steve Collins said. "Finishing in the top ten at the World Championships is a great accomplishment and a positive step towards swimming at the Olympic Games in 2012."
Rangelova has had an impressive start to her first season on the Hilltop. She was the highest Mustang swimmer point-earner for the SMU Classic, during which she earned an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:47.87 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Former Mustang standout Sara Nordenstam also competed, earning 14th place in both the 200 breaststroke (2:26.07) and the 400 IM (4:39.84). In August, Nordenstam took silver in the 200 breaststroke at the European Championships.
