DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU women's basketball team lost to Kansas, 73-65, on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. Mustang seniors Delisha Wills and Haley Day provided strong performances for SMU, but a late rally gave the Jayhawks the win.

Wills led the Mustangs (4-3) with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. The forward also pulled down six boards and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. Wills led the early SMU charge with six of the games first 12 points.

Fellow senior Day also had an impressive game recording 15 points and eight rebounds. The wing played aggressive on defense and collected a season-high three steals.

Junior Christine Elliott registered a game-high four blocks, which ties a career high. The post made 5-of-5 free throws, and pressured the Kansas posts forcing two steals.

The Mustangs started the game strong, taking a 10-2 lead into the first break. The rest of the game was closely contested by both teams with neither team controlling more than a six-point lead until a late Kansas run gave the Jayhawks (8-0) a 61-53 edge with 6:27 left in the game. SMU rallied to close the gap to 63-62 with a little under four minutes to play. Kansas scored the last eight of nine points to close out the game.

SMU returns to the court next Tuesday to face the North Texas Green Wave at Moody Coliseum. For ticket information, call 214-SMU-GAME (214-768-2463) or visit SMUMustangs.com.
