DALLAS (SMU) ---Behind a game-high 20 points from Delisha Wills, the SMU women's basketball team defeated North Texas, 85-72, on Tuesday evening at Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs fell behind early in the game and trailed 18-6 after the first six minutes of the game. For the rest of the half, SMU went outscored the Mean Green 36-18 to take a six-point lead into the half. Seniors Wills and Haley Day led the first-half scoring with 16 and 10 points respectively.
"I thought that Delisha and Haley were key in bringing us back into the game after falling behind early," SMU head coach Rhonda Rompola said. "Day hit two big shots, including a big-time three, to lead us back."
Wills' 20 points follows a 22-point effort in SMU's last game against Kansas. The senior forward finished 8 of 10 from the field and collected a block and a steal.
With a team-high eight rebounds and 11 points, Christine Elliott turned in a solid effort for SMU. Elliott has led the team this season with 7.6 boards and is second on the team with 11.5 points per game.
The Mustangs outshot the Mean Green 45 to 36 percent. Every SMU player logged minutes and scored in the contest. The Ponies forced North Texas into 20 turnovers. Alisha Filmore and Raven Short each tallied a team-high two steals.
