PINEHURST, N.C. - Buoyed by four solid performances, the SMU men's golf team finished fifth at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at the 7,009-year, par 72 Centennial Pinehurst Number 8 Course at the Pinehurst Resort on Sunday afternoon. While no Mustang golfer finished in the top-20, four `Stangs placed in the top 30. SMU finished the 54-hole event with an 891, while Virginia Tech claimed the team title at 876.
SMU's Ben Tewes was the top `Stang finisher, tying for 21st at 223. Teammates Kelly Kraft and Draegen Majors were one shot back at 224, tying for 26th, and James Kwon's 225 was good for a 29th-place tie. Playing unattached, SMU's Max Buckley tied for 18th at 222, carding a solid 72-72 over the final 36 holes.
Robert Hoadley of UNC-Greensboro took medalist honors at 213.
