HATTIESBURG, Miss. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team jumped up into a fourth-place tie with a 291 on day two of the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the 6,146-yard, par-71 Canebrake Country Club. SMU's 291 was 15 shots better than its first-round score. At 597 for 36 holes, SMU is tied with Tulsa and just four shots behind third-place Memphis.
Individually, SMU continues to be led by Liz Wells, whose 74-71 has her tied for fifth at 145. After a disappointing 79 in round one, SMU's Tia Gannon rebounded with a 1-under 70 and is now tied for 15th at 149. Mustangs Felicia Espericueta (76-76) and Jennifer Hooper (78-74) are tied for 25th at 152.
Tulane still leads at 573 and the Green Wave's Ashley McKenney tops the individual leaderboard at 138.
Final round action begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
