HATTIESBURG, Miss. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team placed fifth with a score of 897 at the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the 6,146-yard, par-71 Canebrake Country Club. SMU's final-round 300 left the Mustangs just eight shots back of a top-three finish.
Individually, four Mustangs finished in the top 20 - Jennifer Hooper (78-74-71-223-T15th), Tia Gannon (79-70-76-225-T19th), Liz Wells (74-71-80-225-T19th) and Felicia Espericueta (76-76-76-228-T25th)
Tulane won the Championship at 858 and the Green Wave's Ashley McKenney took medalist honors at 210.
"I think this gives us something to build on for next season," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "I'm pleased that we placed better than many predicted, but we're not where we want to be yet. That said, we had some players post very solid individual rounds and with such a young lineup, I know we'll be a better team next season."
