Baylor Invite Tournament Central
The SMU volleyball team begins its 2010 season this weekend with three games at the Baylor Invite in Waco, Texas.
SMU vs. Butler - August 27, 4:00 p.m. - SMU leads the all-time series 1-0
SMU vs. Baylor - August 28, 12:30 p.m. - Baylor leads the all-time series 5-2
SMU vs. Stephen F. Austin - August 28, 5:00 p.m. - SF Austin leads the all-time series 8-3
Mustangs Kickoff 2010 Campaign at the Baylor Invite: A year after finishing 19-12, SMU returns six of its top eight players including AVCA All-American Honorable Mention Dana Powell. Powell, an outside hitter from Tulsa, Okla., led the Mustangs last season with 3.76 kills per set. Baylor is one of the eight teams the Mustangs face in 2010 that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Seifert Leads Mustangs/Conference USA: SMU is once again led by head coach Lisa Seifert. Seifert, who enters her 15 year as head coach of the Mustangs, leads all Conference USA head coaches with 212 current school wins. "We're excited to get this season underway," coach Seifert said. "We've played each other for three weeks now and what we need now is an opponent. We're ready to play."
Junior Captains: Outside hitter Dana Powell and setter Kelli Becerra, both juniors, were named captains by their teammates for the 2010 season.
SMU - Baylor Invite Connections:
SMU-S.F. Austin Connections: SMU libero Susan Lewis and SFA freshman middle blocker Lindsay Hill were teammates at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio. SMU senior OH Kathryn Wilkerson and SFA teammates sophomore L/DS Madison Hanlan and freshman OH Leslie Jackson are all from Arlington, Texas, though all attended separate high schools. SMU junior Kelli Becerra and SFA Melissa Miksch both hail from Austin, Texas.
SMU-Baylor Connections: SMU libero Susan Lewis and Baylor libero/defensive specialist Kayci Evans were teammates at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio. Baylor freshman Emily Klein is a Dallas native and graduated from Dallas Lutheran High School.
