HUDSON OAKS, Texas (SMU) --- The SMU equestrian team fell to TCU this afternoon by the competition total of 7-4. The meet, which was the first of the season for both programs, was held at October Hill Farm and only featured the Hunt Seat competition.

The Mustangs led the Horned Frogs with an overall competition score of 927-896, but lost the matchup total to TCU.

In equitation over fences, junior rider Jordyn Pettersen earned a score of 86 for the event's MVP. As a team, SMU outscored TCU overall in the event, but lost in four of six matchups.

SMU freshman Renick Townsend led the Mustangs in equitation on the flat with a score of 85, which tied her for the event's high score with TCU's Milana Trimino. The Mustangs were narrowly defeated, 3-2, in the event.

SMU returns to action next weekend with three away meets scheduled. The Mustangs start by traveling to South Carolina on Friday, followed by Kansas State and Georgia on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The meet against Kansas State will be held in Athens, Ga.
