OCALA, Fla. (SMU) – Fifth-seeded SMU Equestrian fell 11-8 in the NCEA National Championship Quarterfinal against No. 4 South Carolina on Thursday at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.
In Fences, the Mustangs claimed a single point. Team captain and All-American
Augusta Iwasaki recorded a season-high of 90.3 to secure her win over South Carolina's Alyssa Bauer.
SMU tied the Gamecocks 2-2 in Reining, with both points being picked up by freshmen. NCEA Reining Rider of the Year
Madison Rafacz proved why she earned the title, defeating her opponent 73-69.5. The Ocala native ended her debut season with an unblemished record of 9-0-2.
Brooke Banks made her way into the Mustang lineup for the first time since October, posting a point-winning score of 69. Captain
Sara Beth Filiatreau prevented the Gamecocks from earning another win, tying Opal Fomish with a score of 69.2.
On Flat, SMU earned two wins.
Aedan Mooney threw down a score of 86.7 to claim her point against South Carolina's Sarah Rabb. The other point came from freshman
Schuyler Dayner, logging a score of 84 against Mary Hunter Millet.
The Mustangs won Horsemanship 3-2. All-American
Violet Shetler nabbed the first win for SMU with a score of 76.7. Senior team captain
Alexa Black found success in the ring, besting South Carolina's Lillian Laney 75-74.8.
Madison Rafacz joined the Horsemanship lineup for the first time this season, recording a winning mark of 77.7, the highest Horsemanship score of the meet.
The team ends their season with a record of 5-6, boasting 23 MOPs, five NCEA All-America selections and the 2026 NCEA Reining Rider of the Year.
