SMU 2010-11 Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU men's basketball team announced its 2010-11 schedule on Thursday. The Ponies host an SMU-record 19 home games at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs open the season at home on Nov. 12 before a visit to Metroplex rival TCU on Nov. 16. The Nov. 12 home-opener is "Operation Sellout" as the women host Utah at 5:30 p.m. and the men face Arkansas-Little Rock at 8 p.m. The remainder of the men's non-conference home slate is highlighted by the SMU Invitational Nov. 19-21 and SEC foe Mississippi on Jan. 5. In Conference USA, SMU hosts NCAA teams UTEP and Houston as well as NIT qualifiers Memphis and Tulsa.
The Mustangs enter the 2010-11 season following their best run in Conference USA. Last season, SMU went 7-9 in C-USA, recording their most wins (7) and best finish (tied for 7th) since joining the league for the 2005-06 season. All-Conference USA forward Papa Dia returns as the Mustangs look to build on last year's success.
"I am looking forward to this season," says SMU head coach Matt Doherty. "This senior class is the first group that has been in the program for four years and I believe that will pay dividends. With 19 home games, we have a chance to have a special season and I hope the fans will be a big part of it."
The Conference USA schedule includes two matchups against UTEP (NCAA), Houston (NCAA), Tulsa (NIT), Tulane and Rice. The one-game matchups include home games against Memphis (NIT), Southern Miss (CBI), and East Carolina as well as road contests against UAB (NIT), Marshall (CBI), and UCF. The Conference USA Championship is in El Paso from March 9-12.
The SMU men's basketball team will host its fifth-annual Tip-Off Dinner at the Royal Oaks Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver and Dallas Cowboy great Michael Irvin will serve as the keynote speaker. Coach Doherty will also give insight into the 2010-11 season on the Hilltop. Mustang fans can buy individual tickets for $100 or sponsor a table for $600, which includes seven tickets plus a coach or student-athlete.
