BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The SMU volleyball team (9-3, 1-0 Conference USA) swept UAB, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20), in its first conference match of the season on Friday night at the Bartow Arena.
Dana Powell led the Mustangs in kills (12) and digs (12) for the second consecutive match. The junior outside hitter, who was named SMU's athlete of the week, tallied her team-leading ninth double-double in the win.
The Mustangs, who lead C-USA in opponent's hitting percentage, held the Blazers (3-10, 0-1 C-USA) to a season-best .056 hitting percentage. Four SMU athletes notched double-digit digs and middle blocker Caitlin Adair provided five blocks in the defensive effort.
SMU continues play tomorrow with the second match of the weekend series at UAB. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT).
