Swim Teams Host North Texas, Wyoming On Friday

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host North Texas' women's team, and Wyoming's men's and women's teams on Friday at Perkins Natatorium at 5 p.m. The women will compete in a double dual meet with North Texas and Wyoming, while the men will go head-to-head with Wyoming in a traditional dual meet. The events will alternate women and then men.
The SMU women are 1-0 in dual meets this season, defeating Rice, 156-106, on Oct. 15. The Mustangs placed third in the highly-competitive SMU Swim Classic Oct. 21-22, swimming against No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Florida, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 13 UVA and No. 40 Louisville.
SMU boasts two 2011 Conference USA Swimmers of the Week in sophomore Nina Rangelova and senior Therese Svendsen. Rangelova has the fastest C-USA time in the 100-yard freestyle (51.21), the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.96, an NCAA B qualifying time) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.87). Svendsen holds the league marks in the 100-yard backstroke (55.32), the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.75, an NCAA B qualifying time) and the 200-yard I.M. (2:04.20).
The SMU men competed in the Southwest Collegiate Plunge last weekend, placing fourth. Junior Mindaugas Sadauskas won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.54, the seventh fastest time in the country this season. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Nicolai Hansen, David Larsson, Sadauskas and Ryan Koops won the event with the second fastest time in nation, 3:00.06.
The North Texas women's team is 2-0 in dual meets this year, with victories over Tulane (175-123) and New Mexico State (184.5-115.5). The Wyoming women's team took second at the Denver Relays and won its dual meet against New Mexico (190-110). The Wyoming men's team also earned runner-up honors at the Denver Relays.
Friday's meet is the "Pack the House" event for SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee). Join SMU's student athletes and help fill the stands and support your Mustang swim teams. Students, faculty and staff get in free. Graduate students must be enrolled in the sports pack to get free admission.
