ATLANTA (SMU) - SMU swimmers Nina Rangelova, Isabella Arcila and Julian Fletcher set national swim records for Bulgaria, Colombia and Bermuda, respectfully, at the 2011 AT&T Swimming Winter National Championships. Rangelova set the mark in the 400-meter freestyle, where she was fifth with a personal-best time of 4:12.21. She also recorded a country-best in the 100-meter freestyle, winning the `B' final to finish 11th overall, clocking in with a time of 55.54. The sophomore had another strong performance in the 200-meter freestyle, coming in sixth overall with a time of 2:00.02.
Arcila continued her solid rookie season with a 24th-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke, clocking in at 1:03.46. She also swam in the 200-meter backstroke preliminary heats, setting a Colombian national record with a time of 2:18.38.
Fletcher earned his time when he finished 41st in the 100-meter breaststroke preliminaries, touching the wall in 1:03.97.
All-American Therese Svendsen placed 14th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:02.85. The backstroke specialist took 22nd in the 200-meter event finishing in 2:14.19.
Senior Denisa Smolenova came in 16th in the 200-meter butterfly, clocking in at 2:14.29. She won the `C' final of 100-meter butterfly, finishing 21st overall, with a time of 1:00.68.
Senior Raminta Dvariskyte had strong showings in the breaststroke events as she finished 15th in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.13) and 27th in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.21).
Newcomers Erica Donadon (100 breast, 200 breast) and Eleonor Lindborg (100 back, 200 back, 200 free) also competed for SMU. Donadon was the first alternate for 100-meter breaststroke finals. Senior Emily Vavourakis was in the 100-meter freestyle.
Men's standout Mindaugas Sadauskas was 15th in the 100-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 50.08. He came in 34th 50-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 23.39.
The women next compete in the Chesapeake Elite Meet Dec. 15-17, while the men head to the Incarnate Word Invitational Dec. 17-19.
