MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Haley Day paced the Mustangs with 13 points and nine rebounds as SMU nearly erased a 15-point deficit, but Memphis held on to win 73-63 in Elma Roane Fieldhouse Thursday night.

Raquel Christian scored 11 points and Samantha Mahnesmith added 10 to give SMU (13-14, 6-8 Conference USA) three players in double figures, but it wasn't enough against the Tigers (19-9, 8-6).

The Tigers opened the game on a 13-2 run over the first four minutes, but SMU held Memphis to just one field goal over the next five minutes to cut the lead in half, trailing 18-13 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. The Mustangs held Memphis to just four field goals the rest of the half, but found themselves trailing 34-21 at halftime.

Memphis shot just 28.6-percent over the first 20 minutes (10-of-35), but made four 3-pointers and connected on 10-of-12 attempts from the free throw line. SMU was 9-of-37 (24.3-percent) in the first half, but made just one 3-point basket and went to the free throw line just once, making both attempts.

The Tigers scored the first basket of the second half, stretching the lead to 15, but the Mustangs got hot from behind the arc, making 4-of-7 to cut the lead to two, 58-56 with 4:12 left in the game. That was as close as the Mustangs got as Memphis out-scored SMU 15-7 down the stretch for the 73-63 victory.

SMU finished the game shooting 31.3-percent (21-of-67), but shot just 24.0-percent from 3-point range. The Mustangs improved on their league-leading free throw percentage, connecting on 15-of-18 from the line (83.3-percent).

Jasmine Lee led the Tigers with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Nicole Dickson added 13, while Alex Winchell scored 10 points. Memphis shot 39.1-percent as a team (25-of-65) and went 18-for-25 at the free throw line (72.0-percent).

The Mustangs take on UTEP in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. CT before returning home to close out the regular season against Rice on Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m.
