HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the final day of competition at the Conference USA Championships by setting four meet records. The men earned runner-up honors at the C-USA Championships, while the women placed third.

Senior captain Tom Cole took top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:54.54, setting a new meet record, earning an NCAA B qualifying time and besting the field by more than four seconds. He also set a new SMU record, breaking a 30-year-old mark set by Olympic gold medalist Steve Lundquist.

Sophomore Mindaugas Sadauskas also set a new meet record as he won the 100-yard freestyle in 43.04, an NCAA B consideration time. Sadauskas, along with David Larsson, Giedrius Andriunaitis and Blaz Korosec, helped lead the 400-yard freestyle relay to a first place finish with an NCAA time of 2:56.37.

Distance specialist Mitchell Thomson turned in an impressive performance in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 15:12.78, more than 27 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The time earns Thomson NCAA B consideration.

Freshman Braeden Newton took third in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:49.23.

The women earned a top-two finish in the 200-yard backstroke as Therese Svendsen set a new meet record (1:53.82) and Deanna Matthews came in second (1:59.03). Both women earned NCAA B consideration times for the efforts.

Junior Raminta Dvariskyte also set a meet record, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in an NCAA B time of 2:13.88.

In the 1650-yard freestyle, freshman Alice McCall came in first, touching the wall in 16:36.83, an NCAA B qualifying time and more than 8 seconds faster than her closest competitor.

Denisa Smolenova picked up another first place finish for the Mustangs by winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.53). Smolenova's swim earns her NCAA B consideration.

Freshman Nina Rangelova placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, with an NCAA B time of 50.10. Rangelova also swam the first leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Rangelova, Emily Vavourakis, Genny Konicke and Monika Babok touched the wall in 3:19.88, earning them an NCAA B qualifying time.

Senior captain Audra Egenolf picked up important points finishing second in the platform dive with a score of 291.60.
