LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) - The No. 35 SMU Women's Team won a thrilling match against No. 43 UNLV on Saturday at the Frank And Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex by a final tally of 4-3. The narrow victory pushed the Mustangs' record to 11-3 on the season.

The Lady Rebels took control of the match early by claiming a hotly contested doubles point.

The No. 73 duo of juniors Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova claimed the lone Mustang doubles victory with an 8-6 win over Nives Pavlovic and Aleksandra Josifoska at No. 1.

Down 1-0, SMU needed four singles wins to earn the match win and claimed them at spots 1, 3, 4 and 5.

Lesniak, the nation's No. 8 singles player, made quick work of Lucia Batta at No. 1, winning 6-2, 6-4.

Fellow junior Heather Steinbauer got back to her winning ways as she took out Nivea Pavlovic in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3.

Shahzoda Hatamova also won a tight three-setter to help the Mustang cause as she rallied from down a set to take out Adrienn Hidvegi, 6-7, 7-4, 6-3 at No. 4.

Aleksandra Malyarchikova earned the fourth SMU victory at line No. 5 with her 7-6, 6-4 win over Jana Albers.

"I was really proud of the girls today," said head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner. "Even though we didn't get the doubles point, they were fighting hard and that is all you can ask for. I told them that if they played like that in singles we could come back and win and that is exactly what they did. Now we have to get some rest and get ready for our match with Boise tomorrow."

SMU returns to the courts Sunday, March 13 when they play against No. 52 Boise State at the Fertitta Tenis Complex. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m. PT/Noon CT.
