FAR HILLS, N.J. (USGA/SMU) - Following up his win at the 111th U.S. Amateur Championship, former SMU golfer Kelly Kraft was added to the 10-man 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team.
Prior to the tournament, 2010 Amateur Champion Peter Uihlein, Patrick Cantlay, Russell Henley, Harris English, Patrick Rogers, Nathan Smith and Chris Williams were named to the team. Kraft defeated both Cantlay and Rogers on his way to the championship.
Along with Kraft, Jordan Spieth and Blayne Barber were selected to the team following the tournament.
The 10-man squad will compete against a team made up of amateurs from Ireland and Great Britain in the 2011 Walker Cup match on Sept. 10-11 at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The Denton, Texas native earned his spot on the team as a result of defeating Cantlay, the world's top ranked amateur golfer, 2-up in the U.S. Amateur Championship's 36-hole final round on Aug. 28. Kraft became the third SMU golfer to win the U.S. Amateur Championship after Hank Kuehne won it in 1998 and Colt Knost won it in 2007.
