Mustangs Top TCU In Dual Meet

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team defeated cross-town rival TCU, 178-120, in a dual meet on Thursday night. With the win, the Mustangs move to 2-1 in dual meets this season.

Junior standout Mindaugas Sadauskas had another strong showing with three top performances for the Mustangs. Sadauskas won the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in with a time of 20.30. The freestyle specialist won the 100-yard event with a time of 44.29. Additionally, Sadauskas led the 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish, clocking in at 1:30.51.

Diver Devin Burnett continued his stellar freshman season winning both the one- and three-meter dives. Burnett claimed the three-meter with a score of 366.08, more than 50 points ahead of his nearest competitor. He also won the one-meter dive (330.00) as the Mustangs swept the event. Hayden Hodges placed second in the one-meter dive, tallying a score of 291.53, while Richard Cornelius was third with 283.58 points.

Senior Blaz Korosec picked up a pair of top-finishes, winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.93).

Newcomer Matas Andriekus made a strong impression in his second meet as a Mustang. Andriekus won the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 50.50. The freshman earned runner-up honors in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.47.

Sophomore Nicolai Hansen won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.55. He also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming the event in 2:04.94.

Junior David Larsson was first in the 100-yard butterfly (48.55) and second in the 50-yard freestyle (20.77).

Freshman Paolo Stanchi won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:03.37.

The Mustangs picked up important points with second-place finishes from Julian Fletcher (100-yard breaststroke, 56.04), Ryan Koops (100-yard freestyle, 45.74) and Matt Roney (200-yard freestyle, 1:41.30).

SMU hosts Texas A&M on Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Perkins Natatorium on the SMU Campus.
