BIRMINGHAM (SMU) - Following two days of practice at Birmingham Southern College, SMU will wrap up its preparations for the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl with a walk-through this afternoon at historic Legion Field.
Players have also enjoyed several days of events here in the Magic City, including a visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, a BBQ Buffet and Bowling competition and a trip to a local comedy club. Players also attended an FCA Breakfast with keynote speaker Bobby Bowden and visited a local children's hospital.
Fans can join the fun tonight at a pep rally in Birmingham's Five Points entertainment district as SMU's band and cheer groups will host a pep rally at 5 p.m.
SMU will face Pitt in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at noon at historic Legion Field. The game will be televised on ESPN. The game will also mark SMU's third bowl game in three years, tying the school record for consecutive bowls, and its 14th bowl appearance overall.
SMU finished the 2011 regular season 7-5, winning at least seven games for the third straight season, the first time since doing so five straight seasons from 1980 to 1984.
