Southwest Collegiate Plunge - Complete Results

MANSFIELD, Texas (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 season at the Southwest Collegiate Plunge this weekend. Texas won the meet with 857.5 points. Texas A&M came in second (754 points) and the Mustangs took third (677.5).

"This was a good kick start to the season," head coach Eddie Sinnott said. "We raced well and performed better at this meet than we have in past years, which should be a sign of good things to come."

SMU was led by senior captain Mindaugas Sadauskas. The sprint freestyle-specialist won the 50-yard freestyle and took second in the 100-yard event with times of 20.76 and 44.98, respectively. Sadauskas was also a member of all four Mustang relay squads, leading the team to four medal finishes (2nd 400-yard medley relay, 3:22.76), (2nd 200-yard medley relay, 1:32.90), (2nd 400-yard freestyle relay, 3:02.07), (3rd 200-yard freestyle relay, 1:22.71).

Senior David Larsson turned in a strong performance in the 100-yard butterfly as he won the event with a time of 49.24.

The Mustangs earned important points from third-place finishes by Matthew Napier-Jameson (100-yard breaststroke, 58.30), Matt Roney (200-yard freestyle, 1:41.21) and Matas Andriekus (100-yard backstroke, 51.46).

SMU hosts crosstown rival TCU on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Perkins Natatorium.
