RESULTS
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The SMU women's golf team climbed into a tie for ninth place at the Alamo Invitational Monday. Despite a player disqualification, the Mustangs bested its first day score by two strokes by shooting 6-over 294 on the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Jenny Haglund was dealt the disqualification because she signed for an incorrect score. However, she can still participate the final day of the tournament and count for the SMU team score. Prior to notification of the disqualification, SMU was in a tie for seventh.
Alexandra Rossi had one of her best rounds of the year with a 4-under 68. She had seven birdies, including five on the back nine. The junior is even-par for the tournament in 16th place.
Ahead of Rossi in the individual leaderboard is Jennifer Park. The senior followed her 1-under first round with an even-par Monday. She will enter the final day of the tournament in a tie for 14th.
"We played with better focus today," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We were in control of our shots and played well. We just played instead of overthinking. I am proud how this team rebounded from yesterday."
Lindsey McCurdy improved her first day score by three strokes at 3-under. Rounding out the round for SMU was Evelyn Dole who shot a 79.
Leading the event is LSU at 13-under. The Tigers are followed by Arkansas (-9), Auburn (-6), Florida State (-1), Texas A&M (+5), Tulane (+3), Oklahoma (+8) and Baylor (+10).
"We have our work cut out for us," Sutherland said. "I think we can keep our momentum and keep our scores low. This is a fun course to play and we have enjoyed the event."
The finale day of the Alamo Invitational will begin at 8:45 a.m. for the Ponies. They will tee off with Oklahoma and Baylor for the round.
