Mustangs Take Eighth At Alamo Invitational

Oct. 28, 2014

RESULTS

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
SMU women's golf had its best finish on the last day of the Alamo Invitational Tuesday, which earned the Mustangs an eighth place finish. Alexandra Rossi and Jennifer Park both finished the tournament at 3-under for a share of 11th place.

"We got better as the event went on," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We were a little more consistent and made putts we needed to. We showed signs of being a great team and we plan to build on that."

Rossi had the best day for SMU with her 3-under 69. The junior was par-or-better for the entire round. She shot 213 (76-68-69) for the event for her third top 20 finish of the year.

"Alex was great again," Sutherland said. "She put together two very strong rounds to end the tournament. She fought for each par and made good putts for the birdies. She did not give any shots back to the course, which is very encouraging."

Jennifer Park also finished the event 3-under to be in the tie for 11th. The senior turned in her lowest score of the event with a 2-under 70. She was par or better in each round of the tournament (213, 71-72-70).

"Another solid tournament from Jennifer," Sutherland said. "I think she might think she left some shots out there but she did a great job. She has gotten better each week."

Lindsey McCurdy ended the tournament on a high note with her lowest round of the year at 1-under 71. Overall she carded a 224 (78-75-71) over the 54-hole event.

Evelyn Dole concluded her first weekend of competition as a Mustang. She was 1-over on the final day to bring her tournament score to 227 (75-79-73).

"Lindsey and Evelyn got great final scores," Sutherland said. "Both played with a great attitude and made some shots. I was happy to see them turn in their best scores yet."

Rounding out SMU's day was Jenny Haglund who rebounded from her Monday disqualification with a 73 in the final round.

"We now have time to work on some things," Sutherland said. "We had a strong showing this fall and I saw a lot of positives. We will fine tune some areas and be ready for next semester."

SMU will now go on a hiatus until the spring. Play will pick up in February with the UCF Invitational.
