Mustangs Open Season With USA Swimming Meet

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team will begin its 2014-15 campaign this weekend with the NTS A Meet in Frisco, Texas. The three-day event will start on Friday, Oct. 31 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 2.
About The Mustangs
Burnett, Klein and junior Parker Meinecke all competed in the USA Diving National Championships in August. With a third-place finish in the one-meter and a second-place finish in the three-meter synchronized, Klein was the men's high point award winner. Burnett finished fifth in the one-meter and Meinecke finished 19th in the platform prelims, narrowly missing the cut for the finals.
Looking Ahead
The Mustangs will host their first dual match of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 12 against in-state rival TCU at 7:15 p.m. CT in Mansfield, Texas.

About The Mustangs
Coming off of a second-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship in 2014, SMU enters the 2014-15 season with hopes of bringing home the conference title. The Mustangs return seven all-conference performers and welcome in a promising freshman class.
Swimming
Four returning swimmers earned all-conference honors for the Mustangs a year ago.
Senior Tyler Rauth was named all-conference as a a part of the 800 freestyle relay team that finished third at the chamionships. Rauth also placed fourth in the 200 butterfly.
Sophomore Ziga Cerkovnik earned all-conference honors after recording three second-place finishes with the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. Cerkovnik also placed fifth in the 100 yard freestyle.
Senior Matas Andriekus was also a member of the second-place 200 medley relay, giving him all-conference honors. Cerkovik also finished fifth in the 200 backstroke.
Senior Eastman Holloway was named all-conference as a member of the 800 freestyle relay team.
Diving
Senior diver Devin Burnett was named The American's Diver of the Year in 2014 after sweeping the diving events at the conference championship. Burnett then went on to grab the bronze medal in the platform dive at the NCAA Zone Diving Championship, while also finishing seventh in the one-meter and eighth in the three-meter.
Sophomore Bryce Klein gives the Mustangs a formiddable one-two punch in diving. Klein put together an impressive freshman campaign, finishing second in both the one-meter and three-meter dives at the conference championship. The Southlake, Texas, native went on to place fifth in the one-meter and three-meter at the NCAA Zone Diving Championship.
Senior diver Hayden Hodges earned all-conference honors after finishing second in the platform and third in the one-meter and three-meter.
For the diving team's accomplishments, diving coach Jim Stillson was named the conference's Diving Coach of the Year.
Summer Success
Several Mustangs also enjoyed success over the summer. Incoming freshman Matt Ackman won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke LC at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Maui, Hawaii, in August.
Christian Scherübl, another incoming freshman, competed for Austria in the European Championships in August. Scherubl swam the 100m and 200m freestyle, along with the 200m freestyle relay, for the Austria national team.
