DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team heads to College Station, Texas, this week for the Art Adamson Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. Action will begin on Thursday, Nov. 20 and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 22.
About The Mustangs
SMU (0-1) is coming off of a 173.5-126.5 loss to TCU on Nov. 12. The Mustangs won five individual events in the dual with the Horned Frogs. Junior transfer Sam Straughan won both the 100-yard backstroke (49.73) and 100-yard butterfly (49.54), while freshman Matt Ackman registered a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.10).
Senior diver Devin Burnett, the reigning conference diver of the year, won both the one-meter (362.78) and three-meter (365.85) dives. Both scores met qualifying standards for the NCAA Zone Diving competition.
Straughan and Ackman have both clocked times that rank in the top 100 nationally. Straughan's time of 49.73 in the 100 back is the 65th-fastest time in the country this season, while his time of 49.54 in the 100 fly ranks 90th. Ackman's 200 breast time of 2:04.10 is the 80th-fastest time in the nation.
About The Field
In addition to the Mustangs and the Aggies, LSU, TCU, Arizona State, Stanford and Grand Canyon will all compete in College Station. Stanford is the only ranked team in the field, as the Cardinal is ranked 10th in the latest CSCAA rankings.

Burnett, a senior from Plano, Texas, was honored for his two first-place finishes in the dual meet versus TCU. Straughan, a junior transfer from Loughborough Univeristy (U.K.), also won two events against TCU. Together, the duo combined for four of SMU's five individual victories in the meet with the Horned Frogs.
Summer Success
Several Mustangs also enjoyed success over the summer. Incoming freshman Matt Ackman won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Maui, Hawaii, in August.
Christian Scherübl, another incoming freshman, competed for Austria in the European Championships in August. Scherübl swam the 100m and 200m freestyle, along with the 200m freestyle relay, for the Austrian national team.
Burnett, sophomore Bryce Klein and junior Parker Meinecke all competed in the USA Diving National Championships in August. With a third-place finish in the one-meter and a second-place finish in the three-meter synchronized, Klein was the men's high point award winner. Burnett finished fifth in the one-meter and Meinecke finished 19th in the platform prelims, narrowly missing the cut for the finals.
Looking Ahead
The Mustangs remain in the Lone Star State for the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, two weeks from now. The three-day meet begins on Thursday, Dec. 4.
